Kathrin Winkler Therapy, LLC specializes in Trauma counseling and therapy, especially the aftermath of accidents and survivors of sexual abuse by integrating EMDR therapy when appropriate
Do thoughts like “No one can know about this”, “It was my fault”, “I could have done something different”, “Have I really been sexually abused”, “I hate myself” or “I don’t want to be touched” keep bothering you? These thoughts and others are very common for individuals and children who have been sexually abused.
You may even believe if you tell someone, no one is going to believe you. Maybe there is also the fear of being judged. Whatever thoughts and feelings you are having, please know that we can talk about it. You are not alone. The numbers of sexual assault and abuse victims are scary high. The only reason why no one talks about it is the fear of being judged and feelings of shame. Maybe your abuser even reinforced some of your thoughts through the way s/he talked to and isolated you from others.
In my work with victims of sexual abuse I integrate evidence based theoretical approaches like EMDR and TF-CBT to help you break free of those traumatic memories. We will start by creating a safe place for you and practicing coping, self-soothing and calming strategies to allow you feel in control of your emotions and body again.
Don’t stay silent and fight these emotions, memories and thoughts on your own. Together in therapy we will work, according to your pace, on finding ways that make you feel better and help you move on with your life. Lets not allow your abuser to keep this control over you. Call me today to schedule a counseling appointment and get started.
