There are many options in today’s world for accessing services using technology. The traditional way of doing all of your counseling in person might not be right for you. While online and phone counseling is different from face-to-face counseling, it has a lot to offer.
After an initial assessment, in which we determine if Telehealth is appropriate for you, we can schedule appointments for online therapy sessions. You can imagine this being similar to Skype or FaceTime but with extra protection for confidentiality.
Online and phone counseling can be great to
Maximize your budget and time
Get extra help in-between sessions
While you are traveling, sick, at home with small children, or other reason you cannot meet in person
Transition out of therapy (or ease into) therapy
As a way to get support when you know you wouldn’t come to therapy
Things to think about
Per phone we cannot see each other, therefore, body language and facial expressions are absent. This may decrease the fullness of the experience.
While I will be using a safe online communication service, the privacy of our communication on your computer and at home is your responsibility. Strong passwords, and safe practices (not leaving your computer unlocked while you are gone) are important. The same applies for our phone conversations.
Limits of online and phone counseling
This service is not recommended for:
Suicidal thoughts, thoughts of harming others, or other life-threatening emergencies.
Certain serious mental health disorders.
Intimate partner violence or child abuse.
How it works
Online and phone counseling is an option that is available to current clients who have completed an initial assessment (which takes 1 session).
Phone and Online calls (Telehealth) must be scheduled in advance like a therapy session.
Each session is calculated based on the time it takes us to complete the call. I will apply the amount paid to a face-to-face session at my rate per 55 minutes.
